What is it and what does it mean for New Mexico?
Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that have been around since the 1940’s and ARE used in a variety of industries including food package and firefighting foams.
Several PFAS chemicals tend to be very persistent in the environment and the human body as well as have potential negative health effects, including cancer and increased cholesterol.
Both Cannon and Holloman Airforce bases used PFAS based firefighting foams and have tested positive for PFAS aquifer contamination. At Cannon, the contamination appears to have migrated from the base to a local dairy farmer to devastating effect.
Please join ACI for an expert panel discussion on PFAS, to learn about what is happening in New Mexico and what we can expect from a regulatory and federal level.
